Established in 1915, the Berwick & District Volunteer Fire Department has a distinguished history and now serves approximately 100 square miles of district, providing fire prevention and protection to various types of industry, farms, fishing villages, processing plants and residential neighbourhoods. Members respond on average to over 100 alarms per year. Monthly meetings are held on the last Monday of each month at the Fire Hall at 229 Commercial Street. Training for members is held every Monday evening.
The Department currently has a membership of about 50 active volunteer firefighters with varying degrees of training including:
Standard first aid and CPR
Emergency first responders
Level I firefighting
Fire cause investigation
